Fort De Soto State Park

Fort De Soto State Park occupies Mullet Key, a barrier island off the coast of St. Petersburg, Florida, where the Confederacy constructed a substantial military fortification during the American Civil War in the 1860s. The fort was built as a five-sided masonry structure designed to defend Tampa Bay and the surrounding coastal region against Union naval operations.
